Following the announcement of their exclusive worldwide joint venture partnership with Def Jam Recordings, the first ever by Def Jam with an African company, Nigeria and UK-based NATIVE Records’ rapper ODUMODUBLVCK shares his first solo single of the year, “DECLAN RICE.”
Since his debut on the scene in 2017, ODUMODUBLVCK has built a respectable repertoire of hits including Zlatan & Ecko Miles-assisted “Picanto” which enjoyed chart-topping success for 12 weeks straight in the Top 50 on Nigeria’s premiere music charts, TurnTable Top 100 and peaked at No.1 on Apple Music’s Alternative Charts. His honest music serves as little bursts of his magnanimous personality. Heralded by publications such as Dazed and the NATIVE Mag, as one of the frontrunners of Drill on the African continent, the rapper now has his sights set on global domination.
After generating buzz across Lagos, Accra & Abuja, ODUMODUBLVCK shares his new single under NATIVE Records, “Declan Rice.” The influential Drill artist from Abuja, Nigeria was once on track to become a footballer. However, after an untimely injury, Odumodublvck made his pivot to music. The rapper’s new single “Declan Rice” is named after the captain of West Ham United, one of the English Premier League’s most historic football teams.
A tribute to the rapper’s community – with shout-outs going to NATIVE Records co-presidents, Chubbz and Teezee, visionary visual artist, Slawn, amongst other members of his crew – “Declan Rice” narrates a team bond that cannot easily be broken.
Speaking about the new single, ODUMODUBLVCK shares: “Declan is a hard tackling midfielder. A box to box midfielder. The captain of his team. I am Declan Rice. I am tackling the industry and I am doing it very hard. From my box to their box. I am defending and I am scoring. I am leading all my guys to the promised land.”
“Declan Rice ” is the second single from the rapper’s forthcoming debut EP on NATIVE Records/Def Jam, ‘Eziokwu’ (meaning truth in Igbo language), and foreshadowing the realness that is to come on the project. Packed with a string of hard-hitting raps & melodious anthems, ‘Eziokwu’ is a cohesive project that will serve as an introduction to Okporoko – the self-defined genre by ODUMODUBLVCK which is “a form of Hip-Hop that takes influences from grime, Fela Kuti’s Afrobeat, and progressive R&B.”
With co-signs from Declan Rice himself, as well as from influential figures in both UK & Nigeria music communities such as Skepta, Slawn, Fireboy DML, and Rema,
ODUMODU was recently dubbed “[the] pioneer of Nigerian Drill…[and] the hottest new Rap voice in the country” by Dotty on Apple Music One’s The Dotty Show , ODUMODUBLVCK is taking no prisoners in his quest for supremacy.
