Okay, guys, let’s talk about Tems. Her name alone conjures up images of effortless cool, soulful vocals, and an alluring stage presence. And let’s be real, her fashion game is just as impressive as her musical talent. From red carpets to festival stages, Tems consistently delivers looks that are both daring and elegant. Have you ever noticed how effortlessly she slays every single look? Well, there’s a mastermind behind those iconic outfits, and her name is Dunsin Wright.

Dunsin isn’t just some random stylist picking clothes off a rack – she has carefully built Tems’ global image piece by piece. She’s a creative director, a visionary, and Tems’ close friend. They’re practically besties, and their bond goes way beyond the dressing room, which explains why Tems always looks so comfortable and confident in her clothes. It’s called synergy, people!

But let’s rewind a bit. Before she was styling global superstars, Dunsin was just a Lagos girl with a passion for fashion. Growing up in the 90s, she was surrounded by homegrown luxury brands (remember those iconic Lisa Folawiyo prints?) and a mother who instilled in her the power of self-expression through style.

However, her career journey wasn’t without its struggles. Pursuing a career in fashion wasn’t the most conventional path, especially in a society that often prioritizes more traditional fields. Imagine trying to convince your Nigerian parents that a career in fashion is a serious path. Still, Dunsin knew she couldn’t ignore her creative calling. She started with fashion PR in London, where she gained valuable experience, working with renowned designers and immersing herself in the international fashion scene. Then she moved back to Lagos to head up comms and marketing for Lisa Folawiyo herself. What a full-circle moment!

This experience gave her a front-row seat to the inner workings and the business side of the fashion industry. She learned the ropes, built her network, and eventually took the leap into styling. She started taking on freelance projects, styling shoots for artists like BOJ and Davido, and even collaborating with NATIVE and Momo Fashion for Lagos Fashion Week. And then, fate intervened.

A chance encounter with someone from Tems’ team led to a mood board, a photoshoot, and the rest, as they say, is history. What started as a one-off gig blossomed into a long-term collaboration, and Dunsin became an integral part of an essential part of Tems’ creative team and the singer’s rise to global stardom.

So, what’s the secret to their creative success? It’s a combination of factors, including a deep mutual respect, a shared understanding of aesthetics, and, perhaps most importantly, a genuine friendship. Dunsin has a knack for understanding Tems’ personality and translating it into fashion. She doesn’t just dress Tems; she helps her tell a story through her clothes. And Tems, in turn, trusts Dunsin’s vision implicitly.

Whether it’s sourcing vintage pieces from obscure markets, collaborating with designers on custom creations, or simply pulling together the perfect combination of high-street and high-end labels, Dunsin approaches each look with meticulous attention to detail. But it’s not just about looking good; it’s about feeling good too. Dunsin prioritizes comfort above all else. She believes that true confidence radiates from within, and if Tems doesn’t feel comfortable in an outfit, it won’t matter how good it looks.

This philosophy extends to the entire glam team. Dunsin chooses makeup artists and hairstylists not just for their skills, but also for their personalities and positive vibes. It’s about creating a collaborative and supportive environment where everyone can bring their A-game. The results of their collaboration speak for themselves. From the iconic baby blue Brielle moment at the Global Citizen Festival to the ethereal custom Vivienne Westwood gown at the Grammys, Dunsin has helped create some of Tems’ most memorable looks.

She’s not afraid to take risks and push boundaries, but always with Tems’ comfort and confidence in mind. Dunsin believes that fashion should be fun and expressive, and she encourages Tems to step outside her comfort zone and experiment with different styles. But she always does so with Tems’ input and approval, ensuring that the final look reflects Tems’ personality and vision. Dunsin’s approach is all about celebrating individuality and encouraging women to embrace their unique style.

Dunsin is also expanding her creative horizons, venturing into creative direction for music videos and curating exhibitions like “2121,” which explored the future of fashion through the lens of African creators.

So, what can we learn from Dunsin Wright? Well, for starters, never underestimate the power of friendship and trust in creative collaborations. And remember, true style isn’t about following trends, it’s about expressing your authentic self.

Who knows, maybe one day Dunsin will be styling you for your own global takeover. Until then, we’ll be watching her make moves with complete adoration.
