Nigerian singer and songwriter Adekunle Gold has collaborated with top English football club, Manchester United, on a new sustainable streetwear collection called LFSTLR. This collection by Adidas, which is made from a minimum of 70% recycled and renewable materials, features premium-engineered fabrics on items like jerseys, hoodies, t-shirts, vest jackets, and other urban clothing.

The exciting collaboration was unveiled at a fashion and culture event in New York City earlier this week. The exclusive off-pitch range of clothing features lifestyle-focused adaptations of the 2023 season’s third jersey for some of the world’s top football clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United, Juventus, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid. The collection is the perfect blend of football tradition and contemporary streetwear. Look cool, stylish, and support your favourite football club at the same time? Now, that’s a package deal! The range features the iconic Manchester United crest, with the Adidas logo sometimes on top, sometimes to the side. The vest jacket is particularly cool, and is a more subtle way for ‘Reds to express their club pride in a distinctive and comfortable way’.

Adidas worked with the different top football clubs to appoint creative leads, with Adekunle Gold designing the Manchester United version, and being joined by other international superstars like American Grammy-nominated rapper Pusha T who designed the Arsenal version, and Mexican rapper Alemán who designed the Real Madrid streetwear.

In a statement released on the official Manchester United website, Sam Handy, Vice President of Product and Design at Adidas Football, said: “The lines between football and fashion have never been more blurred, which is why we’re excited to launch this new collection for fans who want to show off their club pride in style and comfort.” Handy further elaborated on the LFSTLR jersey, explaining that it elevates the traditional concept of replica jerseys by incorporating superior fabrics for added comfort and a premium trim execution. This refined approach removes or minimizes some traditional on-pitch elements, resulting in a clean and contemporary look that places the club crest in the spotlight.

The collaboration between Adekunle Gold and Manchester United is a significant moment for both parties. For Gold, it is a chance to reach a new audience of fans and to raise awareness about sustainability. Also, if you know anything about Adekunle Gold, you will know that the award-winning singer is a lifelong Manchester United fan and a big fan of doing good, so you can only imagine his excitement at being involved in this project. For Manchester United, it is an opportunity to connect with a younger demographic and to show their commitment to environmental responsibility.

The LFSTLR collection is also expected to have a significant impact on the fashion industry. It is one of the first major collaborations between a football club and a fashion brand to use recycled materials. This could lead to other clubs and brands following suit, which would help to reduce the environmental impact of the fashion industry.

The collection is available at both Adidas and Manchester United stores in sizes XS to XXL, and it is priced from £50 for a t-shirt to £110 for a vest. According to the football club, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the collection will go to support the Manchester United Foundation, which works to improve the lives of young people in the UK. The collection has been praised by fans and critics alike, with the Guardian calling it “a stylish and sustainable way to show your love for Manchester United,” while The Telegraph said it is “a groundbreaking collaboration that is sure to make waves in the fashion world.” The LFSTLR collection is a truly unique and innovative product that is sure to appeal to fans of Manchester United and streetwear alike.

Adekunle Gold really ‘no dey stop’. He has had the meanest glow up since the start of his career, and we’re very excited to see him shining in music, fashion, and of course, activism – not unlike actual gold. The music superstar is about to go on tour for his album ‘Tequila Ever After’ which has such hit songs as ‘Party No Dey Stop’ and ‘Ogaranya’, so make sure you check him out and catch one of his shows if you can!
